Mumbai: Maharashtra State Haj Committee is set to hold today i.e. Monday, January 07, 2019 the Computerised Qurrah or Draw of Lots to prepare the final list of pilgrims from the state who will perform Haj in 2019 through the Haj Committee of India.

The Haj Qurrah or Draw for Maharashtra Haj pilgrims is set to be held 11:00 am today at Haj House in Mumbai.

The Maharashtra Haj Committee based on its Muslim population of 1,29,71,152 has a quota of 11,907 pilgrims but it had received 35,658 applications - 23,751 more than the allotted quota.

In 2018, Maharashtra was allotted a quota of 11,527 pilgrims and it had received 43,779 applications. On the other hand, the state had a quota of 9,780 pilgrims in 2017 when it had received 57,259 applications in 2017.

Unlike other State Haj Committees, Maharashtra Haj Committee does not release the final Haj Qurrah list on the website. A pilgrim, therefore, has to check his or her name using the Haj 2019 Cover Number from the Haj Committee of India website.

The Haj Qurrah process starts district wise. Before the Qurah/Draw of Lots, it was decided by the Maharashtra Haj Committee to directly select the pilgrims of above 70 years of age and women who had applied to go for Haj without Mahram.

After the Draw by the Maharashtra pilgrimage Committee, the list of pilgrims going to Haj from Mumbai, Nashik, Malegaon, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Pune, and other state districts and cities are now final. Those who had applied for this year's haj can check their status using a cover number as explained above.

Reports coming from Kerala State Haj Committee, Andhra Pradesh Haj Committee, Telangana State Haj Committee, Jammu and Kashmir Haj Committee, Rajasthan State Haj Committee, Gujarat State Haj Committee, Karnataka Haj Committee and other states said they will complete the Haj Qurrah in the next few days - possibly before the end of the January second week.

The Uttar Pradesh State Haj Committee, however, confirmed that it will hold the Haj 2019 Qurrah of the state on Friday, January 11, 2019.

The Haj Committee of India distributed its total quota of 175,025 seats to pilgrims going to Haj through it. Accordingly, a total of 125,025 pilgrims will go through the Haj Committee of India and the remaining 50,000 seats have been allotted to Private Tour Operators (PTOs).

The Haj Committee of India has received a total of 267,261 Haj Application Forms (HAF) from 31 Indian states. The number of application received this year has drastically reduced due to various reasons. But, it is still more than the double of India's Haj Quota allotted by the Saudi Government.

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Union Minister of Minorities, has requested the Saudi government to increase India's quota by 20,000. However, a judgment on this is often nonetheless to be taken. All the states including Maharashtra will be allotted more seats if this additional quota is granted to the country.

Also, the Haj Committee of India after completing Qurrah will release the Haj 2019 waiting list on February 05, 2019. Coinciding with Eid al Adha, Haj is the annual ritual to commemorate the sacrifices made by Prophet Ibrahim, his wife Hager and their son Prophet Ismael. The probable date of Wuqoof e statesman - the key ritual of the pillar of Islam, is August 09 or ten. As the Islamic calendar is based on the sighting of the moon, the final date will be decided once the new moon of the month of Dhul Hijjah is sighted.
